For those who want to keep track of what to do, what to use and be ultimately successful in the process.
This is shockingly easy once you follow a system. Many people get confused with the process of SEO or search engine optimization. It’s much easier if you have just one site to work with first. Get that one up to speed and then move on to the next one if you’re so inclined.
I’ve included two videos (from YouTube) which aptly describe the importance of a few SEO tasks I don’t want you to take lightly. They’re short and valuable. The first step applies to those who are looking to market products or services. If you’re starting a ‘not for profit’ site, it won’t apply. Read the rest of this entry »

The rise of Web 2.0 and social bookmarking brought about a shift in focus for strategies in generating website traffic. Whereas before, the focus was on keywords which would attract search-engine hits, the new plan is to write for people instead of machines, in the hopes that somebody will submit a site’s link to Digg, Reddit, Del.ico.us, et al. This kind of content is called “link bait”. So, how’s that working for you? Read the rest of this entry »

What is web 2.0? It’s a term that gives a lot of technology-savvy people a chance to argue about the definition all day long. One of the reasons that’s true is because Web 2.0 is the name observers gave to the evolution they’re seeing, not an actual specification such as HTTP on which the web is fundamentally based.
If you’re over 40, Web 2.0 is the stuff your kids use naturally, but you’re still puzzled about. It’s the online material they can spend hours building with, molding it to meet their own needs, expressing their creativity. Read the rest of this entry »

Directories most often market and advertise themselves well. To the point, that when they turn up on the page in front of you, it’s almost always difficult to refrain from submitting your site(s). However, you should take care with some of the directories you come across because often they can be link farms or simply just another directory script that thousands of other directory owners are using. Alexa is a good indicator of traffic- use it. Check PR for trust reasons only don’t depend on it. The owners can throw up a no-follows tag at any time which some directories have done once they’ve reached a certain size. Re-worded, don’t join directories for the sole purpose of gaining PR - you’ll only be disappointed in the long term. However, PR DOES indicate trust.

The Reciprocal Review Carousel
With the evolution of search engines to put more and more weight on links, website owners are getting increasingly creative in their efforts to provide backlinks to their sites. Search engines are extraordinarily refined and can sniff out blatant attempts to link, such as reciprocal linkage and link farming. These practices are frowned upon by engines such as Google and will drop your page ranking. Read the rest of this entry »

This is what the search for traffic can do to you if you aren’t careful…
If you feel that you’ve been taken for a ride once too often because of believing and buying software and services from so called internet Gurus, that’s OK because I think nearly everyone has to some degree in this game. Don’t misunderstand me, there are the good folk out there too. However, they seem to be a minority when it comes to quality instruction and know-how relating to SEO and organic traffic generation. Often poor knowledge leads to desperation, frustration and an urge to try things that we ought not. You have probably been on the receiving end of statements like, Read the rest of this entry »
